Heard it On the Subway: Favorite Subway tales

It seems that many people enjoyed my last story… I have many many more to write. Living in New York its part of you, traveling close to strangers, each day another unfamiliar face. In a way it is almost art, a sad truth of how truly lonely one can feel when so many people pass you within a couple of minutes. So here are my favorite posts inspired by the , I hope you enjoy them:

  1. The Fallen Sandal
  2. Will commute for caffeine
  3. The Subway Guy…

Dancing Fire and Waterfalls… No Batteries Included

Files under Just Me, Travel, Writing | 2 Comments

Me at Mountain houseThis past weekend some friends of mine kidnapped me from my safe lifestyle. We made our way up the Hudson river, taking the route that was heavily congested. . Me who spends most of the waking day in-front of a box, with a keypad and mouse making sure other people can seamlessly do the same, let my inner caveman out. is not anything new, nor is it for me, but something about this trip has opened a new beast inside me. Maybe its just the fresh air, the volcanic ash spitting out of the , or just the smells – burning wood, morning dew, stinking garbage, decomposing brush, food cooked over an open or just that forest blend that doesn’t blow down to the busy streets of NYC.

Waterfall1As I sat back our first night sipping on a beer and watching the flames of the dance, it occurred to me that it has been a long time since I wasn’t surronded by electricity or battery operated devices. Besides the car radio that we used as our jukebox and the flashlights that helped us find our sleeping bags and a nice tree for a midnight stroll, I found myself unwired and unwirelessed. Simulated into the 21st century technologists I thrive on our wonderful world of electronics. Right now besides the computer that i’m typing on, my which i’m listing to or the five lights that are turned on in my studio apartment, I have the DVR which is quietly recording today’s 4400. This is the life of the 21st century and not only in the USA but all over the world. When I was down in Ecuador, everyone used the same electronics that made life a lot easier. They didn’t go over board like the consumer informed North Americans, but they aren’t sitting in-front of a on a $9.99 chair which they purchased from Target. (more…)

A portable cd player guy on the subway…

The was a wild ride this morning. If you’ve ever been on the NYC you will understand that its better then any reality tv show ever!!! This morning on the daily ride it was kind of weird. A guy sat across from me with a big brown bag, he had a suit and tie on and big bulky half balled earphones black with red lines before the cushy part. Nothing out of the ordaniry till he changed his CD. Opened the bag, pulled out a case of CD mixes, blank CD’s with read on them – I could only see one of them that said Terrorism Mix.

The expression of the girl next to him was priceless as she contuied to listen to her . I don’t know if it was the fact that he was flipping through that old technology called a CD case or the strange and awkward labels the man had on the CD’s. While this was going on another man handed that guy a piece of paper. The older man who handed him the paper was in my right-side blind spot since we were sitting on the same side of the train. He was an artist, with a clip board and a pencil. The paper was a sketch of the CD-Player guy. I peeped my head out and looked over at the artist and watched as he sketched a young girl who was rocking with the motion as her hand slide on the bar with every jump the train made. (more…)

A plastic smile and painted eyes

Files under Poetry | Leave a Comment

Still. Quiet.

Her beauty takes me away

Picturing ourselves far from here

Swimming in Mediterranean,

Or sky diving over the desert

Maybe even in outer space

I can see myself in the glass

Pictured perfect next to her

Framed by the sounds of the city

A plastic smile and painted eyes

Never changing an expression,

Never challenging my world

The dream is over

I stroll down to the next window.

Cut on the finger

Files under Poetry, Writing | 1 Comment

The blood leaked out of its native packet many times before.

Nothing seemed to be different on the surface and for a minute or two it streamed unnoticeable.

Black spots invaded my vision

Fear laid upon my door

To late for a band-aid, as the red puddle next to my foot grew.

Only a finger, a small narrow part of the body.

Only a piece of metal that pierced it blindly.

Only me alone, heart pounding as the spots grow.

I look down to see what beauty my splatter makes.

Smile its only a cut on the finger.

‘Cover it’, my ghosts whisper to me, ‘cover it and it shall heal’.

Health Kicked – 12 days of fun

Files under Health, Just Me | 1 Comment

So, I did do 12 out of 14 days of the . But didn’t fall off a hundred percent. After the 12 days of NO Sugar, Caffeine, carbs and alcohol I felt great. However, the running and the gym really helped more. The helped me run 3 miles in less then 30 minutes, which is the best I’ve done in years. Now the new goal is to keep it up and try in this busy New York Life to run more then 15 miles a week… or at-least 15 miles a week. (more…)

Health Kicked – Day 6

Files under Health, Just Me | Leave a Comment

We all hate Mondays! Six days without caffeine and I think my withdrawal is spiking again. In the morning the alarm clock blasted from across the room(the only way I’ve found to actually to physically get up in the morning.) My body was paralyzed, well not really paralyzed, but all the muscles were on strike. I could feel the a stream of cells marching inside every muscle, marching so hard that it was burning. That was the start of a long day. (more…)

Health Kicked – Day 5

Files under Health, Just Me | Leave a Comment

Alright this is getting ridiculous. Scales lie!!! I do not mean the ones on the Huge Galapagos lizards (Mostly yellow lizards there, at-least the bigs guys were.) Anyways, it seems I am 173 now, or at least for the moment. Now that might not sound like much – but I haven’t been under 175 in a long long long time. Plus my belly has been hurting with all this ab workout…. And today is the first day of the five days that I didn’t have a salad. The whole salad thing can get addicting, which might be a good thing for me. Like Rodney Dangerfield in ‘Easy Money’ when he has a salad while his friends pig out on steak, “No Respect.” But today, it is respectable to eat healthy and soon it may even be the law. As the government cracks down on Trans-fats, soon they might cut out Chicken Wings…. if that was the case, I’d have to make them myself – I love chicken wings. But don’t have a craving for them right now. I’m sure if I was walking pass ‘Dallas BBQ’ I’d have to dig my nails into the palm of my hand to keep on this track. (more…)

Health Kicked – Day 4

Files under Health, Just Me | Leave a Comment

Saturdays are those lazy days, where you kickback and take in the early summer sun. The forth day of this Health Kick, I woke up and had a decafe latte, a V-8 and a little lox with a friend. The V-8 has been more like my cup of coffee these days, giving me that extra boost. As the day grew I had a salad for lunch, then went to the gym… Again. This time I did a hard-core abs workout and biked 12.5 miles.

Day 4 went by too quickly… But it is Saturday.
