Is the Interent under a Revolution?

Information should be free, right? In a perfect world you could grab the information, the thing your looking for off a shelf and read it, then put it back on the shelf when you are done. Now that sounds like a library, and that is what the Internet is, a huge shelf-less library. However, many feel the Internet is an evil thing that people use to steal property. Benjamin franklin founded the first Public lending Library in this country on the thought that education shouldn’t be only for the rich. The Internet now has changed this tremendously becuase prior to the Internet Libraries would purchase materials. Now some materials are freely available on the web and this is what many people are saying is stolen property. For example Andrew Keen made an apperance on the Colbert Report, which shows how the so called experts are stating that bloggers and Interent users are ruining culture and are stealing information. The Internet is about freedom, freedom of thought, expression and use. Last week a man by the name of Danny Carlton announced he was boycotting Firefox becuase Firefox users are thieves. These statement are both from people who call themselves Internet Experts. However, where either them around before the World Wide Web, either of them Post usnet forums. I don’t think so, both are authors and feel that the Internet is stealing money from them.

Well, I feel bad for people who don’t see the Internet as a huge public library. Keen even stated that he ‘loathed Wikipedia,’ which goes to show that the so called ‘elite artists’ (which he calls himself) believe that anyone who isn’t published or singed doesn’t have a voice. The truth is that information should be free, and people should be free to view the information that is out there, otherwise our society will suffer from lack of knowledge. The people who try to control the flow of information are the people who try to control the masses. I beleive the future is going to see that we have have to fight for our freedom, our freedom to self educate ourselves, to combine diffrent cultures and reach across the globe. The Internet culture is being attacked, the blogsphere, educated technologists and the hundreds of thousands who write daily posts, by people who are trying to control the media for there own profit.

Yes the Internet is under a revolution, it always has been and always will. There are people who want to express themselves freely and then there are the people who want to control those expresser’s.  All one can do is fight for freedom, fight with words and knowledge becuase without the freedom of knowledge on the Internet the world will not be properly educated since we learn best from our peers.
