So, I did do 12 out of 14 days of the diet. But didn’t fall off a hundred percent. After the 12 days of NO Sugar, Caffeine, carbs and alcohol I felt great. However, the running and the gym really helped more. The diet helped me run 3 miles in less then 30 minutes, which is the best I’ve done in years. Now the new goal is to keep it up and try in this busy New York Life to run more then 15 miles a week… or at-least 15 miles a week. (more…)

WOW!!! One week is done. So this was Day 7. I feel good, muscles are killing me but I guess that is better then all those carbs and processed foods. So I woke up this morning happy that in one week I will be able to have a regular coffee. The problem is there will be so much that i’d like to have, I really hope I won’t over do it. (more…)

We all hate Mondays! Six days without caffeine and I think my withdrawal is spiking again. In the morning the alarm clock blasted from across the room(the only way I’ve found to actually to physically get up in the morning.) My body was paralyzed, well not really paralyzed, but all the muscles were on strike. I could feel the a stream of cells marching inside every muscle, marching so hard that it was burning. That was the start of a long day. (more…)

Alright this is getting ridiculous. Scales lie!!! I do not mean the ones on the Huge Galapagos lizards (Mostly yellow lizards there, at-least the bigs guys were.) Anyways, it seems I am 173 now, or at least for the moment. Now that might not sound like much - but I haven’t been under 175 in a long long long time. Plus my belly has been hurting with all this ab workout…. And today is the first day of the five days that I didn’t have a salad. The whole salad thing can get addicting, which might be a good thing for me. Like Rodney Dangerfield in ‘Easy Money’ when he has a salad while his friends pig out on steak, “No Respect.” But today, it is respectable to eat healthy and soon it may even be the law. As the government cracks down on Trans-fats, soon they might cut out Chicken Wings…. if that was the case, I’d have to make them myself - I love chicken wings. But don’t have a craving for them right now. I’m sure if I was walking pass ‘Dallas BBQ’ I’d have to dig my nails into the palm of my hand to keep on this track. (more…)

Saturdays are those lazy days, where you kickback and take in the early summer sun. The forth day of this Health Kick, I woke up and had a decafe latte, a V-8 and a little lox with a friend. The V-8 has been more like my cup of coffee these days, giving me that extra boost. As the day grew I had a salad for lunch, then went to the gym… Again. This time I did a hard-core abs workout and biked 12.5 miles.
Day 4 went by too quickly… But it is Saturday.

Well the day three was hard…. I wanted a coffee and since it was a Friday a drink after work. Happy hour is my favorite hour. For the rest of Day 2 I didn’t get back to the gym due to work, but had salad for lunch. This salad for lunch thing continued into Day 3. It’s almost a regular thing, three days in a row with a salad. This of course maybe considered girly food but I am gaining respect for the salad. For dinner on Day 2 I made a steak and steamed some vegetables. Had half of what I made, finished it on Day 3.
So, this is about Day three and let me tell you I am not the healthy guy. I’m not also the over indulger but I do miss my chicken wings. Come on Brad Pitt must eat chicken wings and drink beer, that’s the ultimate guy dinner as we watch the game or circle the chicken coup. Anyway, I ran 2.5 miles plus stretching and ab work out. Now my legs feel fine, but when I was running they were being sliced up, burning from the inside. The two voices inside fighting -”Keep Going” vs “Its not worth it.” But it is worth it and I did a thirty minute run.
In the past I have tried and tried again of getting into a regular running or any exercise program. Lucky if it lasts one week, maybe two was the longest. My mind wanders on other things, writing, work, friends, family, writing, and of course all those summer movies that are coming out.
However I weighed myself in the gym and I gained two pounds in two days. Im hoping that its just too soon to notice a difference, otherwise its more like the ‘Mean Girls’ diet where the water mass has to build up first before everything just disappears. I’m in this for the long haul… and look forward to be able to run for an hour straight. Most of all I need an athletic hobby after hour and hours sitting down writing on a computer.

WOW! 1 day done…. 29 more to go. Now that is my positive thinking. Yesterday I had a salad for lunch. Sitting out in the sun, sweating in the heat with my button done shirt. I really felt like taking my shirt off and laying in the sun, but figured that wasn’t the best thing to do on the edict level. I could just imagine my boss or other people I work with pass me as I laid on a park bench with my pants rolled up and no shirt. If I had Brad Pitt’s abs already I might not mind.
Okay so I finished yesterday off with Tuna and a cucumber salad. Water and decaf tea. One entire day without coffee or alcohol. It has been a long time since I’ve done that, there is no memory of that - all those days have been washed away. So onward and upward. I met with a friend after work and walked through central park. It’s amazing how active the park is when the weather gets warm, people emerge, they appear out of no where and clog the green veins of the city. Bikers, runners, soccer players and all the people who have shrunken dogs. I find it quiet humorous at the sizes of the New York City K-9, its a city of toy dogs.
This morning is day 2. My legs are burning from yesterdays running and the two mile walk home. I did some stretching and ab workout this morning for about 20 minutes. I can feel my belly, but it still looks like an over-stuffed teddy bear. As I listen to Nirvana “Rape Me” I feel much better. I don’t need no coffee just some grundge music blasting in my ears as I work - modern day to ‘whistle as you work’. This morning I consumed a spinach omelet and a V-8. The no coffee isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, however, yesterday at my 3 O’clock low all i thought about was a Grande-Vanilla-Skim-Latte. Hmmmm I shouldn’t of wrote that, my mind is back to the starbucked fix.
I do feel like I have energy, not too much more. I’m not expecting much for the second day, but we live in a word of instant gratification. Why can’t our bodies work in the same respect as the speed of business, the speed of the internet, the speed of the city that never sleeps. I need a full upgrade to the 21st century body.

This weekend I spent the Memorial day in the Jersey Shore… The beach and boardwalks were crowded with tan and toned bodies. In the mix was me, white as a fresh new white-board and that thirty-something belly which looks like someone pulled the red line on an airline Life-preserver. While I’m sure the girls want Brad Pitt us guys want his abs. So I’m on a thirty day mission to get in shape and get abs like Brad Pitt, Angela beware.
After researching the many ways to loose weight and get fit I declinded on the chemistry of the diet-industry. While Trimspa and those chemical influenced products are nicely advertised I think after Ana Nicole Smith accidentally overdosed people might want to reconsider. So I opt-out for the new trend of “The South Beach Diet”.
Now I am not obese, I’m a thirty-something guy who is completely out of shape- beer gut and all. I can touch my toes!!! I’m proud of that. I’m a couch potato, the garlic-mashed type. So today at the Gym I weighed myself… 175 and I’m 5′ 11″ and 3/4 - 6 foot if I have a quarter in my pocket.
I would like to shave off ten pounds, but more importantly I want more energy in this crazy world. I mean its nice to vegg-out on the couch and watch the Lindsay Lohan but today as she starts her re-hab I am too.
So here it is the Geeks guide to getting in shape, as I follow to my own editing rights of “The South Beach Diet”.
MORNING: Woke up and went to the gym - Stretched then ran 5.5 mph for 30 minutes - then 5 minute slow down. 370 calories. 2.8 miles.
Breakfast: V8, eggs and bacon. NO COFFEE… I’m already dying!!! No caffeine fix. I will blame all grammar issues of this post on LCE - Limited Caffeine Effect.
Here it goes…. Place your bets on how far this will actually take me. The good news is I saved 5 bucks not getting Star-bucked!!
