Is the Interent under a Revolution?

Free Writing

Information should be free, right? In a perfect world you could grab the information, the thing your looking for off a shelf and read it, then put it back on the shelf when you are done. Now that sounds like a library, and that is what the is, a huge shelf-less library. However, many feel the is an evil thing that people use to steal property. Benjamin franklin founded the first Public lending Library in this country on the thought that education shouldn’t be only for the rich. The now has changed this tremendously becuase prior to the Libraries would purchase materials. Now some materials are freely available on the web and this is what many people are saying is stolen property. For example Andrew Keen made an apperance on the Colbert Report, which shows how the so called experts are stating that bloggers and Interent users are ruining culture and are stealing information. The is about , of thought, expression and use. Last week a man by the name of Danny Carlton announced he was boycotting Firefox becuase Firefox users are thieves. These statement are both from people who call themselves Experts. However, where either them around before the World Wide Web, either of them Post usnet forums. I don’t think so, both are authors and feel that the is stealing money from them.

Well, I feel bad for people who don’t see the as a huge public library. Keen even stated that he ‘loathed Wikipedia,’ which goes to show that the so called ‘elite artists’ (which he calls himself) believe that anyone who isn’t published or singed doesn’t have a voice. The truth is that information should be free, and people should be free to view the information that is out there, otherwise our society will suffer from lack of knowledge. The people who try to control the flow of information are the people who try to control the masses. I beleive the future is going to see that we have have to fight for our , our to self educate ourselves, to combine diffrent cultures and reach across the globe. The culture is being attacked, the blogsphere, educated technologists and the hundreds of thousands who write daily posts, by people who are trying to control the media for there own profit.

Yes the is under a revolution, it always has been and always will. There are people who want to express themselves freely and then there are the people who want to control those expresser’s.  All one can do is fight for , fight with words and knowledge becuase without the of knowledge on the the world will not be properly educated since we learn best from our peers.

Tagged for the 7 P’s meme

Files under Interests | 2 Comments

Alright so I was tagged by Aaron for a meme on the 7 P’s. It seems the world has its own game of tag.  I still have another one of these I have to get done.  These things are fun, but with the week Month I’m having its surprising I’m able to get to this one. So here is my take on these Seven P’s:

Passion - To write about the world around me

Purpose - Enjoy the little things, bring a smile to everyone

Pursuit - for that perfect joke

Position - Siting in front of my computer!

Pummeling - the keys on my keyboard.

Progress - One story at a time… maybe a poem

Personality - Sarcastic - witty with a lot of useless information…

So I Terry will now Tag the following Bloggers: Theresa, Gerri, Cameron . Good luck, and away!!!

Far Side of the Glass

Files under Poetry, Writing | Leave a Comment

{by Terry Culkin}

DSCF0165

Green eyes squinting towards the sky,

a deep breath in, her mind escaping back inside.

Only moments ago she was on the far side of the glass.

Her memories linger on words, black type

letter by letter; traveling a thousand miles per second.

Never saw her lips move, a two-dimensional

picture sent and received, typed and entered.

Years of conversations in ones and zeros,

smiles and laughs echo in cyber space –

never met the girl on the far side of the glass.

Sharing our secret stories, those

dreams and fears locked inside,

a confessional booth through telephone calls

cyber chats over a digital line.

Never to hear her voice from the next room,

slide my hand through her hair,

smell the smoke when she cooks,

watch her eat from across the table.

Is this reality or a virtual hell?

Can you remember a face of someone you never met?

Can you find love thousands of miles away?

Even though our hands never touched,

pushing her further away is a sin.

However, our lives physically apart,

countries bordering between,

the gravity of the Universe,

keeps her on the far side of the glass.
